TACOMA PREFUNK SUNDAY, JUNE 11 2017: Duchesse de Bourgogne, Dan Duval and debates
PREFUNK: Brewed by Belgian Brouwerij Verhaeghe, Duchesse de Bourgogne is a Flemish red ale, a blend of 8-month-old and 18-month-old ales, in this case. As with all red ales, the drink gets its characteristic sour and tart quality from lactic acid, while aging in oak barrels imparts a deeper body. The drink is named for Duchess Mary of Burgundy, a filthy-rich medieval heiress who suffered an unfortunate (and deadly) fall from her horse — it happens. The beer resembles a fruit Lambic, though it’s less sweet and tangier. Even with the mouth pucker, the beer is a smooth and easy drink. Duchesse de Bourgogne pours from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. You may find yourself with the warm and fuzzies after downing a pint too quickly. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma
5 P.M. JAZZ LIVE AT MARINE VIEW: Dan Duval walked away from high school with an “A” in vibraphone. It wasn’t until his college days that his desire for improvisational soloing took place. Studying under renowned vibraphonist Gary Burton opened up the unlimited musical possibilities. He called upon some of his past fellow college musicians to form what is known as the Dan Duval Good Vibes Quartet. Marine View Church, Northwest Tacoma
8 P.M. DRINK N’ DEBATE: Comedian Nick Cavasier likes to debate over drinks. In fact, he has combined the two elements into a competition. Four teams of three comedians hit the stage given only a topic and 5 minutes to prepare their arguments. It’s basically an improv style debate show. Tacoma Comedy Club, Tacoma
