TACOMA PREFUNK WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 6 2017: Wingman S’mores Porter and Cashing In Karma
PREFUNK: The campfire has been responsibly extinguished. The sleeping bags rolled up. And the final hugs have been exchanged with promises to stay in touch. Wingman Brewers and Peaks and Pints, a brewery and bottle shop from Tacoma, respectively, will release their second collaboration craft beer at 6 p.m. inside Peaks and Pint’s lodge in the Proctor District. Peter Brown, Wingman Brewers lead brewer, and the ownerships brewed the delicious S’mores Porter this summer, singing campfire songs as they stirred Pale, Chocolate, Victory, Black and Carafa Type 2 malts in the mash tun. As Cascade and Saaz hops boiled the campers tossed in an endless stream of marshmallows and Honey Maid Graham Crackers. The dessert porter sports a tingly, medium mouthfeel, followed by roasted malt, graham cracker, cocoa and marshmallow with long chocolate finish. In addition to draft, S’mores Porter will be available in 12-ounce cans. Tacoma graphic artist Sam Dollar designed the can, featuring caricatures of the three Peaks and Pints co-owners wilderness camping with Brown and Wingman co-founders Ken Thoburn and Daniel Heath. 7 P.M. DESPICABLE ME 3: “We’re going back to villainy!” announces Gru, and not a moment too soon. That whole turn to the good side in Despicable 2 never really sat well. Seeing animation’s greatest modern antihero get his evil back is cause for celebration indeed, even if it takes a hoary plot trope like a long-lost brother to bring it about. Catch Despicable 3 at The Blue Mouse Theatre.
8 P.M. CASHING IN KARMA: Cashing In Karma is a high-energy, alternative rock band with elements from all genres thrown into the mix. Members Jonny Barrett, Melvin Smith, Alex Thoburn and Will Chi will rock the Airport Tavern with Springfield, Oregon alt-rock band, Sojourner.
