SOUL MUSIC, BABY!

When you feel the music, you feel the music. And Kim Archer and Ricky German are feeling the music. Again. Tonight, Archer and German, talented musician and customer designer, respectively, will present Soul Revue II — The 70’s Edition, a reprise of their ’70s soul stage production, an audio and visual trip back in time when Marvin Gaye knew what was going on and Chaka Khan hung out with Rufus. Archer, German and McBride Cohen Management will fill the Pantages Theater with Motown, Stax Records and Philly Soul and will converge on the Pantages stage at 7:30 p.m. A 6:30 p.m. cocktail hour in the lobby complete with DJ and 1970s photo booth kicks off the night; 1970s attire encouraged. Piling out of the shag carpet walled van will be a plethora of Tacoma singers, musicians, visual designers and theater professionals, including bandleader Kareem Kandi and technician Kris Crews. On the stage, with flared pants and fur trim, singers Tiffany Wilson, Lady A, Jimmy Shields, Sotaria and, of course, Kim Archer, will move, and groove, through the magnificence of ’70s soul, with host NinjaKat will keep the Love Train and Midnight Train on track.

PREFUNK: Peaks and Pints will hold a Lodge Meeting focusing on Pike Brewing Co., and by focus Peaks and Pints means drinking a bunch of the Seattle brewery’s craft beers, including Hive Five Hopped Honey Ale, Octopus Ink Black IPA, Kilt Lifter Scotch Style Ale, Hopulus Erectus Triple IPA, Tandem Belgian Dubbel and Entire Wood Aged Stout. The 6 p.m. event will be a fundraiser for Green Tacoma Partnership, a public-private partnership between the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks, Tahoma Audubon Society, Cascade Land Conservancy, community groups and citizens working together to sustain a viable healthy network of natural spaces throughout Tacoma. Fifty cents from every Pike pint will go toward keeping Tacoma green. In an effort to keep your cupboards full Pike will be giving away pints.

PUNK ROCK

Punk rock comes in all shapes, all sizes, all colors and all genders. Originally, it was a badge of courage with the ability to supersede all of the aforementioned labels, but somewhere along the way, it has segmented itself like other aspects of society — probably because of the stupid human brain, but that is another story altogether. What’s important here is the simple fact that Klondike Kate and C U Next Tuesday are punk bands, not “girl” bands or “chick” bands, but punk bands. Check out these punk bands at 9 p.m. in The Swiss Restaurant and Pub.

PREFUNK: The team from Locust Cider will drop by the North End Social Club to chat up its delicious ciders beginning at 6 p.m. expect to drink Locust lovelies Thai Ginger, Apricot, Pineapple and Sweet Aged Apple-Semi Sweet, when you’re not scoop up sweet giveaways.
