JAZZ UNDER THE STARS
Pacific Lutheran University, home to the stellar jazz and NPR station KPLU (yay!), takes the rhythms to the outside hosting Jazz Under The Stars — an outdoor concert series in the Mary Baker Russell Music Center Amphitheater. The shows are free, and so is the coffee. The fun continues tonight with the Olympia Jazz Tentette at 7 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and your picnic food. Select wine, beers and snacks for sale are available.
PREFUNK: The only thing you enjoy more than the forthcoming season four of the Benedict Cumberbatch-starring Sherlock on PBS is making fun of Cumberbatch’s name. Well, Bandersnatch Creamsicle, there’s an awesome Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator on Tumblr. That’s right, Tiddleywomp Cuttlefish, visit http://benedictcumberbatchgenerator.tumblr.com/ and discover your new name. Baseballbat Moldyspore. Snozzlebert Crackerjack. Just keep hitting refresh like a crack-addicted lab rat. That’s what we’ll be doing on our phones today when Odd Otter Brewing Co. releases Benedict Cucumberbatch Pale Ale in their taproom at 2 p.m. We’re talking cucumber goodness Bourgeoisie Crumplebutt.
FIVESTAR
It was a sad day in indieville when actress/singer Zooey Deschanel officially filed for divorce from Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard. Though the two had been rumored to be on the rocks for some time, fans held out hope that the duo would work things out. It will be a sad day in indieville tonight when Boise indie pop band Fivestar play their last show, hitting The Swiss stage at 9 p.m. Tacoma ska band Echo Shot joins the free, 21+ show. Come say farewell and have a few drinks.
PREFUNK: Mike Besser has his grandfather to thank for enticing him into the beer and liquor industry. As a young boy he would have conversations with his “grandpa” came home from work. Grandpa was a butler/bartender for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills from the late 1940s until the mid 1990s and knew everyone. “Grandpa Charles was awesome,” says Besser. “He would come home with different items from the parties. And he would tell us about how Jimmy Stewart would order his drink or how President Reagan would order and then Nancy would make him water down his drink. I was hooked!” Besser, also known as BrewDad, purchased NW Caps N Taps bottle shop and taproom in Bonney Lake earlier this month, renaming it BrewDad’s of Bonney Lake. At 6 p.m., Besser hosts Two Beers Brewing Co. and Seattle Cider Company for a night of Wonderland Trail IPA, Lima Loca Lager, Bier de Mars, Dry Hard Cider, Berry Hard Cider and other outdoors-y themed goodness.
NIGHT BLOW
Oh for God’s sake. Get your mind out of the gutter, Tacoma. Night Blow isn’t some bizarre sex act, or that stuff you were addicted to in the ’80s, it’s a party tonight at the Museum of Glass sure to feature lots of dancing with fire, lots of drinking, lots of swanking, lots of eating, lots of glass blowing (Dan Friday and Courtney Branam in the house, yo!) and Soundabout DJ on the turntables. Blowing begins at 5 p.m. Admission is free.
PREFUNK: Uinta Brewing’s new look further embraces the use of a compass, Uinta’s company icon. “The compass symbolizes our adventurous spirit, sense of direction in brewing, and serves as a reminder to get out and get lost every once in awhile,” says Will Hamill, Uinta’s founder. Tonight, the compass points toward The Copper Door where six Uinta (you-in-tuh) beers will flow — Cutthroat Pale ale, Hop Nosh Tangerine IPA, Detour Double IPA, Cucumber Farmhouse Gin Barrel Aged Saison, 23rd Birthday Suit and Anniversary Barley Wine — beginning at 6 p.m.
