From watching Elf to eating Aunt Bethany’s cookies to spraying fake snow on the windows, we all have our seasonal rituals. And it’s impossible to live here and get in the spirit without a spin through ZooLights. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s 600,000 light display depicts everything from Santa’s reindeer to walruses and the 23-foot Mount Rainier. There is an infusion of newness in this year’s event, including two live reindeer hitched to a sleigh to take photos with, the serving of beer and wine at the Plaza Café and a host of new scenes. Walk through the twinkling lights from 5-9 p.m.
PREFUNK: Peaks and Pints has been making lists — and checking them twice — and at the top of the list is pFriem Family Brewers. At 6 p.m., the Hood River, Oregon, brewery will be at Peaks and Pints for a lodge meeting we’ve titled “We’re pFrieming of a Craft Christmas”. We’ll tap the coveted pFriem Flanders Blonde. The elegant craft beer is brewed and aged in the same tradition as Flanders Red and Oud Bruin, brewed with Pilsner malt and highlights delicate flavors of French Oak after 18 months in twice-used Pinot Noir barrels. Not only will the Flanders Blonde flow but so will the Hood River brewery’s Kumquat Farmhouse Ale, Belgian Xmas Strong Ale, Dry Irish Stout and Cognac Barrel Aged Belgian Dark. Be sure to “holidize” your outfit as Peaks and Pints will be decked out for the holidays, with pFriem gifts under the tree.
MOVIN’ GROOVIN’ MUSIC
The Swiss Restaurant and Pub hosts GrooveSession at 8 p.m. Recognized for unique song writing and powerful live performance, GrooveSession is a true throwback and good old fashioned rock band uniting fans with a funky flare and positive message. The trio says they make “movin’ groovin’ music,” so don’t be standin’ around.
PREFUNK: You knew there was a reason to hold on to the Christmas-light-laden and obscenely geometric printed green-and-red sweater. You once thought even the one with reindeer had potential. Now it’s time to explore your closets because, ladies and gentlemen, as The Copper Door and Seattle Cider Company host the first annual Ugly Sweater Party from 6-9 p.m. According to pre-sweater hype, “Jingle and mingle as we sip on warmed one-off versions of your favorite ciders from Seattle Cider Co.”
