The Grand Cinema + The Copper Door = wee heavy
DODGEBALL ON ICE
Feeling a little post-work aggression? Need to work out some of that latent hostility toward your corporate competition? Then head to downtown Tacoma’s outdoor ice skating rink, Polar Plaza. Wha? That’s right, dodgeball on ice. There’s nothing like hearing the thwap of a red rubber ball on human flesh or an elbow on ice to set everything right in the world. Gather up your coworkers and sign up a team of six for some fun, light-hearted competition on the ice. It’s $60 a team or $3 to watch people get smacked in the face. The tournaments begin at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Be there or be square.
PREFUNK: Bacchus Flanders Oud Bruin exudes all the range of flavors you might expect from the famous Van Honsebrouck Brewery. The blend of malty sweetness and tangy flare give this Flemish sour it’s unique flavor profile. Aged in wood barrels, the underlying fruit, nut, and grain elements hit after the delicate fruity and floral aromas envelop the nose. With a tangy to dry finish this beer represents the artful and time-honored traditions of Belgian brewing. Peaks and Pints has this Flemish beer on tap from the get-go at 11 a.m.
WOMEN’S RIGHTS
The Grand Cinema screens Equal Means Equal at 1:30 and 7 p.m., offering viewers an unflinching look at how women are treated in the United States today. Issues discussed in the film include: domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, the foster care system, reproductive health and discriminatory attitudes in the workplace. Bring your neighborhood bigot that doesn’t believe in rape culture or even that friend of yours that doesn’t think gender based income inequality doesn’t exist, so they can get their head checked.
PREFUNK: The Scotch ale can be a malt lover’s dream beer, with its smooth sweetness and body. Also called a “wee heavy,” Scotch ale is known for a rich, malty sweetness and strength (6%-8% ABV). It’s made with a long boil time that caramelizes the wort and produces sweeter, full-bodied flavor with copper to brown color. The Copper Door’s Tasting Tuesday theme is, obviously, Scotch ale. The Stadium District bottle shop and taproom offers a flight of four — Boundary Bay Brewery Scotch-style Ale, Fort George Brewery Plaid Scotch Ale, Great Divide Brewing Co. Claymore Scotch Ale and Silver City Brewery Fat Scotch Ale. The flight takes off at 6 p.m.
