CREATIVE COLLOQUY SOIREE
You love Tacoma’s literary night that is Creative Colloquy. The stories, the people, the tasty coffee and craft beer. Sometimes you just want to take the stories out of the picture and just hang with the creative types, maybe talking stories, maybe discussing Brexit, maybe nibbling on Chef Aaron Grissom’s something something or sip literary-themed libations with Heritage Distilling spirits. Well hang on to your beret, Andre, Creative Colloquy puts the books down, adds a little Kim Archer music and throws a party at Two Dogs Barking Productions from 6-9 p.m. Expect literary shenanigans and a raffle to support the second annual Creative Colloquy Crawl.
PREFUNK: You’ve heard the story before: A fire in January 2009 at the original downtown Gig Harbor 7 Seas Brewing meant they had to relocate across Highway 16. Popularity and growth forced them to move to their current and much larger location back in downtown Gig Harbor. Next month, 7 Seas will add another location, opening an 80,000-square-foot expansive taproom, marketplace and production facility with 10,000 sq. ft. basement for barrel program in downtown Tacoma at a site that once held the Heidelberg Brewery. That’s all fine and dandy, but you just want to drink their craft beer. At 5 p.m., The Red Hot will pour 7 Seas Ballz Deep IIPA and the limited 7 Seas Hefeweizen into a sweet ass 7 Seas can-shaped glass, which is yours to keep. At 6 p.m., Boathouse 19 hosts the brewery offering live music and tasty 7 Seas brew.
COMEDY OPEN MIC
Standup comedy hasn’t evolved much since the glory days of ventriloquist and puppet. Every so often, there’s a Gallagher smashing watermelons or a musical funnyman like Jack Black, but for the most part, comedy is a dude on a stage with a microphone, plodding through a joke-punchline-new-joke routine. You’re funny. You need to change the course of comedy forever. At 8 p.m. the Tacoma Comedy Club opens its stage to the public for a comedy open mic.
PREFUNK: The Black IPA goes by many names: American Black Ale, India Black Ale and Cascadian Dark Ale (when most of the hops are American-grown Cascades). Hops are at the forefront, but the style can also have a modest malt signature because of the amount of black malts that are used to give it its rich black color. Half Lion Brewing Co. on the edge of Sumner will release their Pacific Crest CDA today. If you haven’t visited Half Lion, expect to see lumber. Tons of lumber.
