WEDNESDAY, MAY 25 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …

Buddy Guy + Bob’s Brown Ale = “Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues”
Pencil portraits + Wet Coast Brewing = prominence

LEGENDARY BLUES

Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy, 79, doesn’t just go with the flow. His tunes mix the best of hard rock, gentle balladry and electronica influence, while keeping the heart and soul of blues intact in every note. To experience the delightful Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, head to the Pantages Theater at 7:30 p.m. for a live demonstration.
PREFUNK: Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing and namesake of their flagship beer, Manny’s Pale Ale, began brewing Bob’s Brown Ale in honor of his friend, Bob Hirsch. Hirsch died of cancer just after celebrating his 21st birthday; May 14 is his birthday. A limited amount of Bob’s Brown Ale kegs were released May 14. The Parkway Tavern will celebrate the release again with a Bob’s Brown Night with Georgetown Brewing in the house, with a raffle and auction items, at 6 p.m. One hundred percent of the proceeds from Bob’s are donated in honor of Hirsch to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington & Alaska to provide a “home away from home” for Children’s Hospital patients and families.

TEACHERS RULE

Through a series of portraits in pencil, Chloe Snell and Emily Miller sought to capture the wisdom, grace, energy and passion of 10 teachers at the Tacoma School of the Arts — teachers who have strongly impacted their lives throughout the past four years. Handforth Gallery inside the Tacoma Public Library Main Branch hosts “Gratitude: 10 People who Changed Out Lives,” which is on display until 8 p.m.
PREFUNK: Wet Coast Brewing Co. is ascending into summer with a re-release made especially for those who enjoy extreme bitterness in their beer. Two Flights Up IIPA challenges beer drinkers who love brews with citrus flavors that completely take over and don’t let go of the taste buds. The beer finishes slightly dry with mild alcohol warmth. The Gig Harbor brewery’s taproom opens at 3 p.m.
