WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30: South Sound events + craft beer …
The Blue Mouse Theatre + Peaks and Pints = DANG!
Fantasy Lights + Rainier Growlers = Pike and penguins
EVA GREEN!
Peaks and Pints fell in love with Eva Green in Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. She was also terrific in Casino Royale. Then came Penny Dreadful, and it was like, holy barleywine! The ability to convey pages of characterization with just a look! Case in point: She hardly has any dialogue in the trailer to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and yet we’re almost certain we understand 75 percent of that character’s psychological makeup just from her expressions alone. If you’ve seen the trailer, you know that the movie basically exists to show what would happen if the female version of Professor Charles Xavier provided a safe haven for kids who have a mouth in the back of their neck. But, dude: It’s Eva Green. One, please, for the 7 p.m. showing at the Blue Mouse Theatre.
PREFUNK: It’s no secret Peaks and Pints Pals like a little tree in their IPA. Two Beers Brewing Co. brewed us a special Spruce Tip IPA and two kegs were done before you could say Piceoideae Frankis. Fort George Brewery’s Magnanimous IPA also didn’t stick around long. The Astoria, Oregon’s popular winter seasonal with Grand Fir tips made a brief appearance on our Western red cedar tap log. Today, Hellbent Brewing Co.’s DANG! Citra IPA is on tap at Peaks and Pints, a craft beer that ill smack your face with hoppiness with a slightly peppery pine hop aroma. Yup, pine. Grab a pint before this delicious ditty from the Seattle brewery is gone.
FANTASY LIGHTS
The moths are on to something. Lights are awesome. Especially holiday lights. Make Wednesday the day you check out Fantasy Lights — a South Sound institutions. Take a driving tour of Fantasy Lights in Spanaway Park, where carloads of travelers can see more than 300 stunning displays of lights and imaginative animation over a two-mile stretch of Spanaway Lake Park. It’s where bears fly kites, Santa and Rudolf sail a tall ship, snow boys kick field goals, penguins slide down an igloo and reindeer leap over your car. Fantasy Lights will operate every night including Christmas and New Year’s Day, from 5:30-9 p.m.
PREFUNK: Founded in 1989 by craft beer pioneers Charles and Rose Ann Finkel, Pike Brewing handcrafts beers of character including the Pike Pale Ale, Pike IPA, Naughty Nellie, Space Needle IPA, Kilt Lifter, Monk’s Uncle, and XXXXX Stout in the historic Pike Place Public Market neighborhood in Seattle. In addition to beer and local, sustainable and seasonal pub fare Pike houses the world-famous Micro-Brewery Museum, illustrating 9,000 years of beer history, including the 1865 hop farm pioneer Ezra Meeker planted on his farm in the Puyallup Valley, which cultivated 500 acres of hops and had an interest in almost every other commercial hops crop growing in the Pacific Northwest. Here comes the Segway — Pike Brewing will be in the land of Meeker from 6-9 p.m. pouring its beers at Rainier Growlers on South Hill.
