WIN, LOSE OR CLAW
Cards Against Humanity is arguably the best game in the history of ever. It puts Monopoly, Candyland and even Scrabble to shame. A crass, pop-culture-inspired laugh riot, it’s the ultimate bonding experience for friends and strangers alike. And now there’s a version that’s a Tacoma community rendition that involves Pictionary, or something. Cartoonist’s League of Absurd Washingtonians presents a rousing game of “Win, Lose or CLAW (Against Humanity) at 7 p.m. in King’s Books. CLAW does not recommend bringing your kids to this one. Warping your children is your job, not theirs.
PREFUNK: Rodenbach, Radeberger & Schofferhofer isn’t a law firm but rather three of the most esteemed and recognizable breweries in the world. Pint Defiance hosts crews from Latis Imports and Radebeger Gruppe, importers for the three breweries, for a night of hard-to-find brews: Rodenbach Foederbier, Rodenbach Alexander, Radeberger Pilsner and Schofferhofer Radler, from 5-7 p.m.
NPCC OPEN MIC
Unlike certain franchise joints that dot our landscape with little green faces like Martian pimples, Northern Pacific Coffee Company’s aspiration is not java hegemony. No, Northern Pacific is content with its corner on Garfield, a block east of Pacific Lutheran University, and its reputation as a great place to procrastinate. Sandwiches and coffee, cornerstones of all serious collegiate malingering, are here in force, but the real treat is the book-lined walls, craft beer and Wednesday night open mic. Grab a beer, select a sci-fi romance and enjoy the local musical talent at 8 p.m.
PREFUNK: The Swiss Restaurant & Pub will host another craft beer pairing dinner, this time welcoming one of the first craft breweries in Washington state, Bainbridge Island Brewing. Glassware full of Mosquito Fleet Session IPA will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by four courses paired with Bainbridge Island beers. The brewery’s Battle Point Stout will be paired with a cinnamon twist tower piped full of vanilla mousse and slivered candied strawberries for dessert. Bring $40 and an appetite.
WINE AND BLUES
It’s been a long week already, and the weekend seems so far away. You need to wash away your Hump Day woes with some fine wines. Hell, bring the whole work crew to G. Donnalson’s for some tasty wine and blues. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., James Haye will deliver an evening of smooth and sultry blues guitar and vocals performing songs from his latest album, Hot Cat on a Tin Roof.
PREFUNK: Here’s something unique: a summer New Belgium Brewing night that doesn’t focus on the Fort Collins’ brewery’s Fat Tire variants. The Red Hot just wants you to get your fruit on — sour, sweet, hoppy or just plain delicious. The Tacoma hot dog and craft beer joint hosts New Belgium at 5 p.m. featuring Tart Lychee (wood-aged sour), Heavy Melon (watermelon lime ale), Juicy Mandarina IPA (check those fruity hops), Citradelic IPA (tangerine IPA), Fruit Fly (passionfruit Citra sour) and Apple Whiskey Barrel Felix Love (foeder and barrel aged sour blend)
BONUS: El Tufo will pour fun and utterly unique Spanish wines that are easy drinking and easy on the wallet. The Tacoma Triangle District tapas bar will also offer a couple of wine based cocktails to tempt you even more.
